Senior Linux Engineer

dnata Travel Group are on the search for a Linux focused Engineer to join our Infrastructure team as the Linux spealist. As the Senior Linux Engineer you’ll own, lead and manage the technical design, planning, initiation, delivery and closure of IT Infrastructure projects delivery. Work with Project and Operational teams to ensure solutions are tested, commissioned, documented and handed over to operational support.

This is both solution design and hands on infrastructure technical role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and assist with projects, development and upgrade of IT services to meet business requirements
  • Assist with O365 Digital Workspace rollout and adoption
  • Assist with Azure cloud migration projects
  • Develop, document, make recommendations and communicate plans for investing in IT infrastructure including analysis of cost reduction opportunities.
  • Producing technical impact assessments & recommendations.
  • Providing technical leadership and governance over solution delivery
  • Supporting Infrastructure Project Managers in engaging IT & Business representatives to enable change.
  • Contributing to the development of standards and strategy for IT Solutions and architecture.
  • Consulting with and supporting other members of technical team.
  • Respond to technical issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Offer guidance in infrastructure movement techniques
  • Support Migration of business-critical applications to a cloud service.
  • Mentor and train the support team in the best and most efficient methods to isolate and address service issues.
  • Work with wider IT team to agree reporting and budget requirements.
  • Understand Technical Architecture Designs and be able to lead the implementation associated IT Infrastructure components (cabling, network, server, desktop)
  • Technology assessment and benefits identification
  • Collaboration with internal and 3rd party technical resources
  • Identify technical risks, issues, dependencies & assumptions across all projects with mitigations
  • Support the development of the business case estimates and feasibility studies
  • Responsible for technical quality management of the projects deliverables, ensuring adequate quality control and quality assurance.
  • Development of technical implementation action plans
  • Weekly progress reporting to the project managers
  • Creation of documentation to record implementation with hand over to IT Operations
  • Use of all toolsets (e.g. Confluence/Jira/Trello) as appropriate
  • To build relationships with key stakeholders
  • Take ownership for the delivery of multiple concurrent projects as required.
  • Liaise and demonstrate influence with business users at all levels of the organisation.
  • Occasional travel UK locations
  • Support regular review meetings and regular progress reporting to Project Managers and stakeholders
  • Support technical implementation task and resource planning.
  • Managing Customer expectations and achieving agreed deliverables.


Essential Skills:

  • Hands on technical IT Infrastructure skills and experience with Liniux Server
  • Hands on technical IT Infrastructure skills and experience with Windows Server
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written word
  • Ability to produce relevant documentation and project status tracking information
  • Ability to manage meetings and customer engagement
  • Strong understanding and ability to visualise entire infrastructure portfolio and co-ordinate change.
  • Previous history of Project management in a customer facing technical IT environment
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers and suppliers
  • Ability to lead and manage technical people at all levels
  • Hands on Server administration

Desirable Skills:

  • Linux and Windows support skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
  • Knowledge or understanding of Mail systems with focus on MS O365, Intune/Autopilot MS Exchange, to include

SMTP, DNS and Internet email

  • Microsoft qualifications and/or CISCO qualifications
  • Experience of designing or contributing to design of IT infrastructure solutions at any level Experience of working in a multi-cultural and ideally global organisation
  • Technical specialism in one or more core infrastructure technologies.
  • Data Centre migration to Cloud Services (IAAS, PASS, SAAS services)
  • Server virtualisation (VMWare, HyperV, Citrix, Nutanix)
  • Knowledge of Server and Network management systems
  • Knowledge of Splunk
  • Knowledge of Webserver and DDoS
  • Knowledge of IT Security systems
  • Infrastructure road mapping and strategy
  • High level of knowledge or understanding of networking for both LAN and WAN.
  • Knowledge of Mimecast, zScaler, Sophos AV and IT Security practices.

The Successful Candidate:

  • An understanding of Cloud integration with Azure and or AWS across IaaS/PaaS/SaaS blueprints and policies
  • Have a broad cross-functional hands-on infrastructure experience including Microsoft products, Linux, Networks, P2V, VMWare, HyperV, security and SQL.
  • Ability to work effectively with business and IT stakeholders, both internal and partners.
  • Experience of technical environments - Data centre hosting (Private Cloud), virtualisation (server and desktop), networking, authentication, security and desktop
  • Experience of systems integration, systems development and service operation environments.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems and would be beneficial if able to demonstrate script Python, PHP, JavaScript etc.
  • A good understanding of Azure AD and Office 365 solutions
  • Computer Sciences or IT related Degree or equivalent experience
  • A demonstrable track record of 5 years+ managing and delivering IT Infrastructure solutions including practical experience and knowledge of data cabling, Physical & virtual Server platforms (Microsoft and Linux), HyperV,

VMWare and Citrix, LAN & WAN Networking, DB and Web Server technology, Backup Systems, Storage Area Networks, Office365, Windows10 solutions, IP Telephony, IT Security

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services, AZURE and or AWS certification is desirable.
  • MSCE or Cisco CCNA/CCND or Azure certified
  • Delivery and results focussed with the ability to prioritise effectively
  • Experience with VMware vSphere and Hyper-V
  • SAN and Storage experience will be advantageous
  • Good understanding of IP networks including configuration experience of routers and firewalls is essential
  • Good knowledge of Linux, Web servers, MySQL (utilising NDB), NFS, DNS (BIND), RADIUS would be an advantage
