We are now recruiting for a Network Technician based in Preston/Leyland, to provide proactive monitoring, maintenance and fault-resolution of our networks, ensuring network performance, capacity and health.

The Network Technician will identify possible network affecting situations, faulty hardware or logical problems, assess the network utilising their existing knowledge & skill-set and use the available tools to identify and resolve faults.

They will be responsible for the implementation of client network and security configurations, working from low level designs. They will also provide network and security technical support to the IT service function and perform day-to-day security and network tasks, such as Firewall changes and configurations, in order to maintain a well-protected and high quality IT service.

Job Accountabilities

  • Ownership and technical resolution for BAU and high severity production incidents
  • Adherence to company standards for change control, network security and network patterns
  • Assist technical team during disaster recovery and business continuity operations
  • Help to define operational procedures and provide necessary documentation and diagrams
  • Provide on-call rota support where required
  • Support network delivery requirements for Service Improvement initiatives
  • Support the design of internal projects and deliveries aligned with the network road-map
  • Support the architecture teams in developing the network road-map
  • Identify new technologies and services to transform the network service

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of network services administration in a similar role is essential
  • Good knowledge of network administration on Cisco routing, switching and ASA firewalls
  • A working knowledge of Checkpoint firewalls is advantageous
  • Experienced in working with Vendor technical support staff, including vendor development teams
  • Experienced in defining technical plans and procedures
  • A good working knowledge in multiple Cisco routing, switching and security technologies including in Cisco ASA and Cisco Nexus
  • Demonstrable experience of network performance tuning and capacity management on critical customer-facing systems
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated environment and the associated processes and tools
  • Have a good working knowledge of company infrastructure components and the processes required to maintain the infrastructure
  • Have a good understanding of the business areas and application/service components used and an appreciation of applications from both a technical and business perspective
  • Knowledge of Cisco UCS Networking (optional)

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

  • Cisco CCNA - Routing and Switching
  • Cisco CCNA - Security
  • CheckPoint CCSA (desirable)

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of and extensive experience with Solarwinds and similar network monitoring & configuration tools.
