DevOps Application Engineer (0426)

  • Location:
    Kingston, Preston

dnata Travel Group, part of the Emirates Group, includes the brands of Gold Medal, Netflights, Travelbag, Travel Republic and Sunmaster. These brands are based at offices across the UK including Kingston-upon-Thames, Chester, Preston and, Halifax.

We are now recruiting for a DevOps Application Engineer with the purpose of  developing a new and supporting existing systems, within the dnata Travel group businesses to ensure the efficient development, testability and release of software. 



Plan - 

  • Work with Architecture to understand the IT technology roadmap and advocate Devops solutions to automate development lifecyles, advocate ‘Shift-left’ and pipeline orchestration
  • Collaborate with engineering and infrastructure teams to define requirements, facilitating meetings and workshops to agree delivery specifications for each piece of work
  • Proactively look at progressing processes/solutions and evaluate how they could benefit the business

Deploy - 

  • Follow project management processes & techniques to drive the delivery of the technology solutions to ensure deliverables are met in terms of quality, quantity and timelines against the agreed KPI’s. Provide high quality post implementation system support to the users by encouraging best practices to improve the productivity, cost and efficiency

Lead - 

  • Be a subject matter expert for CI/CD, ‘Shift-Left’, Pipeline as Code, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Containers/Container Orchestration and Cloud Native Solutions.
  • Develop and leverage relationships with teams members in Architecture, Engineering and Infrastructure to define & deliver solutions to agreed specifications. Be accountable for delivery of assigned tasks

Execute - 

  • Develop, implement and document existing and new deployments
  • Work within the wider IT team to design/implement appropriate code/architecture for existing and new developments
  • Drive improvements to devops standards
  • Work effectively with members of IT department in delivering projects, enhancing current processes and support IT infrastructure team with knowledge where required


Essential Experience 


  • Strong working knowledge of Cloud Native solutions:
    • Azure
    • AWS
  • Understanding of and development of:
    • Containers (Docker)
    • Container Orchestration solutions (Kubernetes)
    • Pipeline as Code – Azure DevOps / Jenkins
    • Infrastructure as Code - Terraform
  • Code deployment / distribution tools:
    • Octopus
    • NuGet
    • NPM
    • Helm
    • Container Registries
    • Dotnet CLI
  • Git Version control
  • Monitoring and Analytics solutions
  • Code Quality solutions (SAST / DAST)
  • Application of Governance, release gates, check and approvals
  • Proven application of ‘Shift-left’ techniques
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to understand and challenge stakeholder requirements
  • Problem solving and fault diagnosis
