Managing Director – Gold Medal Travel Group (0377)

  • Location:

dnata Travel, part of the Emirates Group, includes the brands of Gold Medal Travel Group, Netflights, Travelbag, Travel Republic and Sunmaster. These brands are based at offices across the UK including London, Kingston-upon-Thames, Chester (Deeside), Preston (Leyland) and Halifax.

We are now recruiting for a Managing Director for our award winning, B2B brand, Gold Medal Travel Group. The successful applicant will be expected to lead and direct the Gold Medal Travel Group business area of the dnata Travel Group, encompassing the key component departments such as Contact Centre Sales, Trade Partnerships, Product & Commercial and Marketing, comprising circa 180 employees. From a matrix perspective, assume dotted line responsibility for the Operations function encompassing circa 160 employees on a shared service basis. 



  • Define, implement and manage the tour operating strategy for Gold Medal Travel Group to deliver business growth targets and ensure the strategic roadmap and the implementation of initiatives reach defined annual targets
  • Deliver defined objectives across Gold Medal Travel Group; recommend, implement and drive initiatives to further develop the business portfolio
  • Direct senior managers to maintain a competitive advantage in the trade-facing market place, maximising all growth opportunities to reach and succeed financial and market share targets
  • Manage the P & L for the Gold Medal Travel Group, ensuring targets are met: EBITDA, Synergies, and Cash to Group
  • In collaboration with Central Ground Services division, ensure direct contracted hotels are being utilised to their full potential, exploiting the best tactical and commercial rates for distribution to trade and retail customers to maintain a competitive advantage and contributing to achieve group override targets.
  • Lead the development, enhancement and innovation of the Trade facing digital platform to be market leading within 2 years

Job Purpose:

Identify, develop and drive the long term strategic plan and enable the business to meet targets for revenue growth, return on capital and profitability. In conjunction with the CEO, explore and exploit opportunities for product development and business growth the UK and wider European markets. Representing the business in high level negotiations, driving business growth derived from the formed partnerships. Design and deliver the customer retention and growth strategy.

The brands under Gold Medal Travel Group are Gold Medal, Pure Luxury, Cruise Plus and Incredible Journeys.


  • Demonstrable ability to strategically plan and achieve a direction/vision 
  • Ability to interface with internal and external senior executives
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen is essential
  • Understanding of the travel industry is ideal but not essential if relevant portfolio management experience exists
  • Proven track record in leading and managing teams
  • Confident and competent in establishing relationships with key customers at senior level
