We are now recruiting for a Senior Network Engineer based in Preston/Leyland, to provide 3rd line support and administration of the company's local, remote and wide area network. Designing and implementing network solutions across the networked estate, you will be a recognised subject matter expert in LAN/WAN/WiFi technologies and products.

Responsible for analysing network service and component availability, reliability, maintainability and serviceability, you will possess exceptional troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, gained over several years supporting carrier and enterprise class business critical networks, and be able to recommend end-to-end network design solutions that are optimal and cost effective.

Job Accountabilities

  • Ownership and leadership of technical resolution for high severity production incidents
  • Adherence to company standards for change control, network security and network patterns
  • Lead the technical team during disaster recovery and business continuity operations
  • Define operational procedures and provide necessary documentation and diagrams
  • Provide on-call rota support where required
  • Lead and support network delivery requirements for Service Improvement initiatives
  • Design and lead internal projects and deliveries aligned with the network roadmap
  • Support the architecture teams in developing the network roadmap
  • Identify new technologies and services to transform the network service
  • Work with Project Managers and IT Service Managers to ensure project delivery meets the estate requirements
  • Take responsibility for completing tasks, focusing on requirements and client needs which the job holder helps to identify, advise and recommend technical solutions based on experience and industry knowledge
  • Demonstrate ownership skills in handling issues
  • React quickly and as necessary to live systems errors and service problems to limit downtime and resolve problems
  • Support the implementation of strategy and policy issues by involvement in change and/or advise to other technical areas and makes recommendations to improve procedures and working practices
  • Improve knowledge of the systems processes and technologies, infrastructure and service development processes, both current and emerging technology
  • Interface with other areas sharing technical knowledge and expertise and resolving issues as necessary
  • To lead the resolution of issues on during delivery
  • Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, appropriate risk management, internal policies and policy standards.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • 8+ years network domain experience operating in a senior capacity
  • Enterprise level experience of working in a large/international corporate environment is desirable
  • Expert knowledge of network administration on Cisco routing, switching and ASA firewalls
  • A good working knowledge of Checkpoint firewalls
  • Expert in working with Vendor technical support staff, including vendor development teams
  • Expertise in defining technical plans and procedures
  • Expert in multiple Cisco routing, switching and security technologies with a strong background in Cisco ASA and Cisco Nexus
  • Demonstrable experience of network performance tuning and capacity management on critical customer-facing systems
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated environment and the associated processes and tools
  • Have a strong working knowledge of company infrastructure components and the processes required to maintain the infrastructure
  • Have a good understanding of the business areas and application/service components used and an appreciation of applications from both a technical and business perspective
  • Knowledge of Software Defined Networks and WAN’s
  • Knowledge of Cisco UCS Networking (optional)

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

  • Cisco CCNP - Routing and Switching
  • Cisco CCNP - Security
  • CheckPoint CCSA (desirable)

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of and extensive experience with Solarwinds and similar network monitoring & configuration tools
