dnata Travel Group, part of the Emirates Group, includes the brands of Gold Medal, Netflights, Travelbag, Travel Republic and Sunmaster. These brands are based at offices across the UK including Kingston-upon-Thames, Chester, Preston, and Halifax.

We’re currently on the lookout for an experience Infrastructure Cloud Engineer to join us in our Preston office. Your purpose will be to minimise percentage of changes to production systems & ensure all aspects of the systems that support the business are monitored effectively and platform security is maintained to the highest quality.



  1. Ensure delivery, implementation and support of IT Infrastructure solutions ensuring business SLAs are met across the business
  2. As a 3rd Line Infrastructure Cloud Engineer, you will be either a primary and/or secondary SME for Systems & Technologies within our Cloud infrastructure
  3. On occasions you will be required to work with the Project Support team for the delivery of Infrastructure solutions and facilitate smooth transition into live support
  4. Provide technical and troubleshooting guidance within the team and too the wider teams in the IT Department as required for incident resolution
  5. Maintain and monitor all technology solutions within the infrastructure environment and ensure that alerting process are effective to ensure availability and performance of the infrastructure
  6. Take a lead in managing the smooth running of our production environments operating 24*7 ensuring tickets are resolved and service levels are achieved Participation in 24*7 support coverage, including on-call rota as required
  7. Excellent communicator able to clearly understand, solve technical issues and have a superior level of knowledge of infrastructure technologies & best practices and comfortable working as part of cross functional and cross site team structures
  8. Provide input in reviewing and determining the correct tools and processes are in place to support our systems and technologies
  9. Contribute to technical evaluation of products within the infrastructure domain
  10. Support the continual service improvement initiatives
  11. Ensure daily, weekly & monthly system checks are performed identifying and escalating issues as required
  12. Share knowledge and best practice to empower all members of the team and encourage same with peers for 1st and 2nd line IT Service Desk and Application support teams
  13. Continually review and establish that all environments are fit for purpose; Dev, Test/UAT and Production and recommend changes as required
  14. Participate in the capacity planning exercises across all infrastructures using appropriate load testing plans and tools in collaboration with the project support team
  15. Perform infrastructure hardware and software installations, administration, maintenance and upgrades on core infrastructure Ensure that all system and device security patching and firmware upgrades are undertaken in accordance with schedules and compliant requirements
  16. Responsible for taking and integrity of data backups in accordance with the Backup Policy
  17. Ensure all data in the data centres is secure and measures in place to mitigate breach of confidentiality
  18. Be continually aware of enhancements available within the current infrastructure solutions as well as any shifts in technology and enhancements that would benefit the business and be able to converse to the wider teams and be able to converse to the wider teams
  19. Take an active interest in profiling and monitoring of our environments ensuring optimum availability and performance, keeping abreast of known and emerging security risks and tools to mitigate
  20. Work with the Information Security Officer to ensure guidelines and policies are in place and adhered to, including but not limited to; PCI/DSS, DGPR and other standards are adhered to
  21. This role will require a flexible approach to working hours and will involve an element of UK travel, with the possibility of overseas as required



  • Mid-level of experience in similar role, preferably in a similar sized organisation
  • Experience in a web-enabled, live eCommerce environment including with advanced IIS & Apache skills to include web site & services implementations, customisation, and troubleshooting
  • Working on multi-tier, high volume, transactional system platforms Monitoring, managing, and supporting on premise, cloud, and hybrid infrastructure platforms
  • Support the project support team in development technical documentation, incl. high- & low-level designs
  • Proactive and logical approach to problem solving
  • Sound level of troubleshooting and fault-finding skills
  • Work under pressure and within a geographically distributed, multi-disciplined, remotely managed team
  • Remote management of infrastructure components and environments
  • Ability to articulate IT issues to non-IT people
  • Working knowledge of ITILv3 processes, incident, problem and change management and an understanding of PCI/DSS standards and principals
  • Advanced understanding of web application development techniques and tools, incl. Distributed software development, WCF, SOAP, XML, .Net framework, IIS, threading, and Agile practices
  • Understanding of caching and message queuing technologies
  • Knowledge of and/or use of collaboration & management tools.
  • Certification or experience working at an advanced Support level across a number of the infrastructure technologies.

Tech stack:

  • Proficient in PowerShell or Bash.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) - Tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
  • Development tooling - CI/CD Pipelines, Azure DevOps, or similar tooling
  • Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
  • Azure AKS, Containers, and container runtimes.
  • Knowledge of Agile Software development and C# .NET programming language is desirable
  • Knowledge of E-Commerce Web Tier technologies such as IIS Server
  • Microsoft & Linux Operating system install, configuration and management, incl. Clustering & Patching
  • Virtualisation solutions; Hyper-V and/or VMWare, incl. P2V and V2V techniques
  • Microsoft IIS and Apache associated component configuration, optimisation & troubleshooting
  • Server architectures incl. blade solutions; build, config and management, ideally Cisco UCS
  • Use of enterprise Infrastructure monitoring & management tools; Solarwinds, Zabbix, Ivanti
  • Enterprise level Backup, Recovery & Replication; Backup Exec, Net backup, Veeam
  • Enterprise Storage technologies; NetApp, Dell, HP, PureStorage, Nimble
  • Azure Directory Services application suite
  • Caching & Message Queuing technologies; Redis, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, incl. scaling & clustering
  • Perimeter Security; DDoS, IPS/IDS, Web Proxy, Mail & Web gateway solutions incl. Mimecast
